Wake Up!

In their new collab album, Wake Up!, John Legend and The Roots attempt to fill the void of socially-conscious soul/funk music left by the likes of legendary artists like Marvin Gaye and Bill Withers.  The album offers covers of 11 politically motivated songs from the ’60s and ’70s.  “Optimistic, but frustrated,” the team of talented musicians breathe relevance into vintage songs, forcing us to open our eyes…

Same songs, same battles…different millennia.

We really gotta stop hitting that damn snooze button.

Listen to the album in its entirety HERE at NPR.
