Things change…whether we like it or not.

They say it’s the only constant…

which sucks…most of the time…but, usually it’s for the better…even if it doesn’t feel like it at the time.

And, we can worry our pretty little heads about the impending Change…

or we can just enjoy the present for exactly what it is…the Present.

So why not relish it (with mustard) & stop thinking so fucking much.

Take it from me, thinking too much will do you absolutely NO good.

Seriously, nothing will make you question your own sanity more than thinking too much.

Just be.  And, enjoy where you are now…

because you’re never gonna be Here again…

and that’s what makes life so beautiful (kiiinda tragic, but perfectly beautiful, nonetheless).

WHAT: First met this beautiful little lady when she played violin with a local blues/rock band.  Need I really say more? Oh, but I will…Recently, this college sophomore & violinist of 11 years performed before a packed house at the Girl Fest SD Launch Party – no doubt stealing the little heartstrings of everyone there.

WEAR: Drawing inspiration from the likes of Agyness Deyn & decades past…Simoné’s style is the perfect fusion of retro androgyny.  Timeless, eclectic – love, love!

Is it just me or do those just rooolll off your tongue ever so splendidly?

Aannyway….seems like such an obvious sentiment – letting your innate awesome shine through - so why is it so hard to just do…just be?

I feel like we convince ourselves not to do things our hearts truly desire because either 1) we’ll fail & be disappointed, or 2) we’ll succeed & have to deal with…the awesomeness of succeeding?

It’s crazy how often it’s the possibility of succeeding that scares us more.

Growing up, we’re encouraged to simultaneously be different AND be normal….over-rated.

Shine, but not too brightly?  F. That.

Be so amazingly different that you inspire others to be different. Be so fuckin awesome that you inspire others to be awesome.

Holding yourself back is not doing the world ANY good.

Illuminators of the inspired.

Beacons of the extraordinary.

Yeah…those roll off the tongue pretty splendidly as well.

Fellas, ladies…it’s Friday.

It’s Friday, the 13th. But, contrary to whatever superstitions you may have swirling in the backs of your heads…

good things ARE happening.

….like the OFFICIAL launch party of Girl Fest San Diego. Like what I did there?

Live music, an amazing art show by favorite local artist, Sarah Stieber (I featured her a while back HERE), moving spoken word artists, educational seminars, a self-defense workshop, and one tasty Thai food truck…ALL for FREE! And, ALL for an INCREDIBLE cause!!

Girl Fest San Diego is a non-profit whose mission is to prevent violence against women and girls. With music, art, spoken word, and educational seminars, they work to empower, inspire, and educate the community.

The official launch party is TONIGHT at ArtLab in Normal Heights, 7-11pm.

Free. All ages.

Friends, 2012′s been pretty grand so far.

I mean, like, really fuckin grand.

…like “walking down the street by yourself with a fat smile on your face & totally not giving a shit because life is so grand” grand.

I know it’s only been a week (plus, two days) & really ANYTHING can happen in the next 355 days,

but that anticipation’s sort of what makes it even more…grand.

ANYTHING can happen.

See, I figure at some point I’m probably gonna have a bad day, a really bad day,

and when I do, I’m going to remind myself of this epic first week of 2012.

I made the conscious decision to do the things that make me happy, allowed myself to slow down & SAVOR the little things,

so when that bad day comes, & I’m feelin all emo & powerless,

I can remember this epic week that I CHOSE to have.

Stand in that sunny spot just a few moments longer.  Eat that ice cream for dinner.  Listen to that song that just soothes your soul so good…on repeat.  Spend time with the people that make you happy.  Let go of the ones that don’t.  Go on adventures.  Get completely lost.  Actually stop to smell the roses.

Make the decision to wholeheartedly, & without an ounce of guilt, enjoy the little things

& you’ll be amazed by how big your life becomes.

WHO: Heather Brisson & Mike Helms @ Caffe Calabria (North Park)

WHAT: She’s the head roaster-slash-awesome. He’s the sales guru-slash-awesome. Together, their knowledge of coffee is enough to pretty much make you question ANY coffee choice you’ve made, well, probably EVER.

WEAR: Bowties, suspenders, vests…a dapper duo, indeed. This is how you keep it classy here in SD.
